Gila Buckman, MD

Meet Dr. Gila Buckman

Dr. Gila Buckman is a graduate of the University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago, Illinois. She completed her residency in ophthalmology at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio and became American Board Certified in Ophthalmology in 1982, after which she emigrated to Israel. From 1982 until 1984 she worked as a senior consultant and surgeon in ophthalmology in Beilinson Hospital, Petah Tikvah, Israel. In 1985 she returned to the United States for advanced training and completed a fellowship in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1987, she completed an additional fellowship at Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital in ocular pathology and oncology working directly with Dr. Frederick Jackobiec. Dr. Buckman returned to Israel in 1989 and began part-time private practice with Dr. Dorit Orpaz in Ramat Gan. Since 2001 she has been affiliated with Carmel Hospital in Haifa serving as an oculoplastic surgeon, teaching residents and publishing articles in her field of specialty.

Society Memberships and Activities

Dr. Buckman is Board Certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She is an attendee and has lectured for the prestigious American Academy of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Publications

Dr. Buckman has published over forty scientific papers and delivered many papers at scientific sessions.

Accomplishments

Dr. Buckman is an aviation medical examiner for the Federal Aviation Administration and the Israeli Civil Aviation and is authorized by both countries to examine and issue medical licenses to pilots of all classes.
